Emem Abang Clinches Top Position at January 3 Mock Session
The New Disciples Mock Session of January 3, 2026, opened with great anticipation as 18 eager members indicated interest in participating in the spiritually enriching exercise. The day’s jury panel – John Paul, Dominic, and Pastor Umah Ernest – presided over proceedings marked by learning, reflection, and healthy competition.
Participants were first screened through a preliminary Bible question drawn from Matthew 27: “In Pilate’s opinion, why did the church council deliver Jesus to be crucified?”
Before the responses of the participants were checked, a non-participating member provided the precise answer – “envy and jealousy” and earned an instant cash reward of ₦10,000.00.
Six Contestants Advance to the Main Ministration
Out of the 18 initial contenders, six successfully answered the qualifying question. The participants who provided correct answers and advanced to the main ministration round were:

The day’s ministrations were anchored on Luke 6, and the contestants drew lessons, insights, and spiritual reflections from selected verses. After careful deliberation between the President and the jury, the contestants were scored as follows:

Precious Eyo (Luke 6:38) – 5/10
Esther Thompson (Luke 6:17-19) – 4.5/10
Emem Abang (Luke 6:43-45) – 6.5/10
Emmanuella Bassey (Luke 6:21) – 4/10 (after clarification on the depth and context of the passage)
Ini Daniel (Luke 6:27) – 6/10
One particularly defining moment came during Contestant #5’s presentation.
While interpreting Luke 6:21, Emmanuella interpreted the “hunger” mentioned in the verse as physical hunger. To deepen understanding, the President invited Pastor Umah Ernest to expound on the same verse.
His teaching brought clarity to the spiritual meaning of the passage, offering a rich learning opportunity for both contestants and the congregation.
Celebrating Excellence
With all ministrations concluded, the champions of the session were announced:
– Emem Abang topped the score with 6.5/10 and went home with a cheque of ₦250,000.00
– Ini Daniel came second with the score with 6/10 and went home with a cheque of ₦100,000.00
– Imedu Effiong who scored 5.5/10 went home with a cheque of ₦50,000.00
The other contestants received ₦10,000.00 and words of encouragement.
The session officially came to a close at 3:00 p.m., following a heartfelt benediction by the President – marking the end of a spiritually uplifting, intellectually engaging, and rewarding encounter.
