Emem Abang Wins October Uyo Mock Session
The October Uyo Mock Session opened with a prayer led by the President, Mr. Nsikan E. Johnny, who officially declared October 3 as the Uyo Mock Session for the month. Following the Scripture of the Day, he announced Dominic, Pastor Uma Ernest, and Lizzy as the jury for the day.
The ceremonial call for disciples and would-be disciples was made, and 17 enthusiastic participants indicated their willingness to take part.
The participants were directed to log in to the New Disciples App on their Android phones, marking the beginning of what would become a fiercely contested journey toward the day’s championship.
The first preliminary question immediately revealed how competitive the field would be. With only two participants providing correct answers, the President opened the floor for additional preliminary questions.
Three more preliminary questions followed, and 11 contestants:
Paul King, Emmanuel Edward, Ndukeabasi Inyang, Emem Abang, Kingsley Iwueke, Aniefiok John, Imedu Effiong, Otuekong Archibong, Charles Michael, Ini Daniel and Ntinwutobong Udofia; eventually qualified for the main contest.
After a keenly contested first round, Kingsley Iwueke and Imedu Effiong emerged as joint top scorers with 6.5/10 each.
Five other contestants – Emmanuel Edward, Ntinwutobong Udofia, Emem Abang, Ini Daniel, and Paul King – followed closely with 6/10 each.
With five contestants tied at 6/10 and only one additional place available among the leaders, the contestants on 6/10 were given a tie-breaker question through the New Disciples App. Emem Abang provided the correct answer, earning a place in the final three alongside Iwueke and Effiong. But the contest was far from over.
To determine the actual first, second, and third-place positions, the three finalists were each given five minutes to preach from 1 Corinthians 5:12 and Matthew 7:1, with emphasis on salvation.
Each finalist had just five minutes to communicate the Scriptures, demonstrate understanding, and make a compelling case for the Gospel. At the end of the preaching round, the scores from both stages were combined.
The final tally gave Emem Abang a cumulative score of 13.5, making her the champion of the October 3 Uyo Mock Session.
Imedu Effiong and Kingsley Iwueke both finished with 12.5 points, forcing another tie-breaker.
But the battle for second and third place was not yet settled.
So the president introduced the tie-breaker question that was drawn from biblical history:
“In the east of the Jordan, the land that was given to Reuben had cities of refuge in them. How many cities of refuge were there?”
The correct answer was three, and Imedu Effiong provided it, securing second place, while Kingsley Iwueke finished third.
Emem Abang received ₦250,000 for first place, while Imedu Effiong received ₦100,000 for second, and Kingsley Iwueke ₦50,000 for third.
In a gesture that underscored the value placed on participation, the remaining contestants were not left empty-handed. Each participant received a ₦20,000 cash transfer in appreciation of their commitment and participation in the session.
The October 3 Uyo Mock Session was more than a contest for prizes.
It was a demonstration of what can happen when biblical knowledge, preparation, courage, and the willingness to proclaim Christ come together.
Seventeen people answered the call. Eleven made it through the preliminary stage. Three stood at the final frontier. And one emerged with the crown.
For Emem Abang, it was a triumphant day.
For Imedu Effiong and Kingsley Iwueke, it was a hard-fought finish.
And for every participant, the experience became another opportunity to study, grow, sharpen their understanding of Scripture, and prepare for the next call to step forward.
On October 3, the Uyo Mock Session found its champion – but the greater story was a generation of disciples willing to stand, learn, and speak boldly for Christ.
