Emem Abang Emerges Overall Winner at April 11 Mock Session
A powerful atmosphere of worship and spiritual expectation marked the April 11, 2026, New Disciples Mock Session. The session commenced with a stirring ministration by the SMNI Choir, whose uplifting worship prepared hearts and minds for the activities ahead.
The opening prayer was led by the President, Mr. Nsikan E. Johnny, who dedicated the gathering to God and formally declared the session open. Shortly after, a call was made for disciples and would-be disciples to step forward. In response, 20 eager participants stepped forward to take part in the exercise, demonstrating courage and willingness to grow in the Word.
To initiate the screening process, the President asked a preliminary question from Genesis 47 concerning the lands Joseph bought in Egypt and the reason he did not purchase certain lands. None of the participants provided the correct answer.
A second question was then asked regarding Jacob’s age when he moved to Egypt and the number of years he lived there. Fourteen participants correctly answered 130 years and 17 years, but only the first 12 to submit their responses advanced to the main contest. Notably, 10 non-participating members of the audience also answered correctly and were instantly rewarded with ₦10,000 each.
Serving on the jury for the day were Pastor Umah Ernest, Sis. Lizzy, and Bro. John Paul, while the scripture focus for the session was drawn from John 15, from which the 12 contestants were at liberty to use any of the verses for their five-minute presentations.
At the conclusion of the presentations, three contestants – Emem Abang, Paul King, and Ntinwudobong Udofia – emerged with the top score of 6/10, leading to a tie-breaker round to determine the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place winners.
The tie-breaker question required contestants to state how many persons moved with Jacob to Egypt, how many were already in Egypt, and to identify those who made up the difference.
Demonstrating exceptional scriptural precision, Emem Abang correctly answered that 66 persons moved with Jacob to Egypt, making them 67, while 3 persons – Joseph, Manasseh, and Ephraim – were already in Egypt, making a total of 70 persons altogether. This accurate and comprehensive response secured her position as the Overall Winner of the contest.
A final question was then posed to determine the second and third positions. Paul King correctly identified Thomas as the disciple who requested clarification from Jesus and quoted the Lord’s response: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, ” thereby clinching second place, while Ntinwudobong Udofia secured the third position.
The event concluded with Pastor Assian presenting cheques to the winners and commending the New Disciples program for its ingenuity, originality, and effectiveness in raising sound, confident disciples. Emem Abang received ₦250,000 as the Overall Winner, Paul King received ₦100,000 as second-place winner, and Ntinwudobong Udofia received ₦50,000 as third-place winner.
The April 11 Mock Session once again affirmed the program’s commitment to nurturing disciples and would-be disciples who are grounded in Scripture, bold in faith, and prepared to make an impact in ministry.
